Tell us about your business: I am a seasoned instructor who has published over 100 free children’s books online in 2009. These downloadable books are designed for use by teachers, parents, grandparents, tutors, and adults, as part of my campaign to improve literacy worldwide.
After spending 25 years teaching reading while wearing the hats of Reading Recovery teacher, literacy coach, title 1 teacher, etc. I accidentally stumbled upon something amazing. Students presented with personalized books about themselves suddenly become magically actively engaged readers! You literally can’t shut them up. They want to read out loud to anyone who will listen to them. It is the most annoyingly wonderful thing.
What inspired you to start a business? Watching five year old children enter school with a light of expectation on their faces and see them exit with their heads down feeling like failures.
Share one business goal: To make enough money through customizations to support me working fulltime on the site.
What would you say contributes to your success? Hearing children say in amazement, “I CAN read.”
What advice would you give an aspiring entrepreneur? Get ready to put in hours and hours and make sure your business is something you will love spending those hours on.
