Company: Mocha Writer, LLC

Position: Founder & Freelance Copywriter

Website: http://mochawriter.com

Year Founded: 2009

Tell us about yourself and your business: I’m a writer and blogger from GA. Admittedly, I’m somewhat of a work-a-holic, but in my spare time, I love to read, do my nails, spend time with my loves and just enjoy life.

Mocha Writer is a freelance copywriting service specializing in creating fabulous content for small, women-owned businesses and working with other small businesses, start-ups and individuals. I write copy for blogs, newsletters, articles and more. Additionally, I run a women’s lifestyle blog, for colored gurls.

What inspired you to start a business? Honestly, I started my business because I couldn’t find a job in media after I graduated from college. Writing has been a passion of mine since I was little, and I knew it was the career I wanted to pursue. However, since I couldn’t find a job, I decided to create a career for myself instead of waiting around. Now that I’m doing this, I can’t imagine doing anything else. I really enjoy helping people achieve their business goals.

Share one business goal: My primary business goal is to help other women and entrepreneurs achieve their dreams and goals with my services.

What would you say contributes to your success? Determination. This journey has not been an easy one, but I think the fact that I’m persistent and haven‘t given up has made me successful.

What advice would you give an aspiring entrepreneur? If it’s something you really want to do and you’re passionate about it, don’t give up. It might take you a long time to get where you want to be in your business, but if you’re determined and persistent, you will get where you want to be.

Additionally, don’t be afraid to dream big and go after whatever it is you want in life.

Anything else you want to mention about your business? I have a blog based on my business, Mocha Writes. The purpose of it is to help people succeed in both their personal and professional lives.

TheCEOMamma Featured Woman Entrepreneur, Kimberlee Thorne-WaintraubFull Name: Kimberlee Thorne-Waintraub

Company: Small World Language Services

Position: Owner

Websitewww.smallworldlanguages.net

Year Founded: 2004

Tell us about yourself and your business: I’m a US expat based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. We are a language niche company specializing in translation, proofreading and transcription.

What inspired you to start a business? It was a natural transition for me. I taught English for many years and then began hiring other teachers to help me. While I taught students, I realized there was a huge need for people to correct texts in English and to write well, so I started doing proofreading and editing (checking the original text with the translation for accuracy and quality).

With time, I became an in-house translator for a telecommunications newspaper online. As I developed better skills, the demand for my services also grew, and so did the demand. I made a lot of mistakes at the beginning, mostly because I would take on work I couldn’t handle. I’ve now learned that it’s better to only accept what you do well or you’ll disappoint your clients.

Share one business goal: I’d like to get to the point where people are breaking down doors to hire my services. Sounds funny, but it’s what I want. I want to be the one in demand – the one everyone wants and values.

What would you say contributes to your success? I’m not afraid of trying new things. I get these ideas and think, “Why not?” Most of the time, others tell me that it’s a great idea and that they loved it, so that encourages me to go forward.

I also work with a great team of linguists. Not only are they pros at what they do, but they’re also great people who bless my life in so many ways.

I must say that my husband is my main support. Without his encouragement, I don’t know where I’d be.

What advice would you give an aspiring entrepreneur? You shouldn’t think about it too much and just go forward with what you want to do, and not be afraid of risk. You’ll never be truly happy unless you give your dream a try. Just do it!

Anything else you want to mention about your business? Small World Language Services is the place where you can trust us with your language requirements. If you needed us yesterday, but you found us today, you’ll be glad you did!

TheCEOMammaSince the beginning of this year, many of you know, I have been actively and passionately building TheCEOMamma Network. In this short period of time, I never imagined it would have grown as much as it has. It gives me such an amazing feeling to know that this all started from a vision I had to help and inspire women entrepreneurs to be all they can be and create a powerful community where we can connect, network, share and learn from each other.

Don’t get me wrong, even though TheCEOMamma has taken off so quickly, it wasn’t easy. It took a great deal of time and commitment on my part to get it to where it is at this point. I’m thankful to those of you who support me in my endeavors, who share my vision to help women in business and I appreciate dearly, your contribution to spreading the word to your networking circles about TheCEOMamma.

These are the things that keep me going…day in and day out. Knowing that connecting with like-minded women and working together allows us ALL to grow and prosper together! When you start an online business and your focus is on developing a network, you never know who you will meet in cyber world or how valuable those relationships will become. I have been fortunate to become friends with some really amazing and encouraging women I would have probably never had the privilege of meeting had it not been for TheCEOMamma.

TheCEOMamma Business Marketing Blog is a great resource I enjoy sharing to help women in business and women entrepreneurs learn how to build and market their business on a limited budget, the same way I did. I’m honored to receive the generous amounts of email from those of you who share with me the gratitude you have for what I do. It is truly the source of where I draw my strength and I appreciate all your kind words.

I say all this, not to toot my own horn, but to share with you the importance of starting a business that first starts with a vision in your heart. When your dream business is birthed from the passion you have within and not driven by the monetary gain you hope to achieve, you can NOT fail.

Your dreams are driven by the same passion and vision which develops within you, the strength to keep going…No Matter What! Because of this heartfelt focus, failure is not an option and you will always find a way to make things happen. If you have a business right now and you feel that burn inside as your reading this, then you can be assured, you are creating your vision!

Many of you “see” my work within the posts of this blog, but I also do so much behind the scenes. I answer every request I receive for help from anyone who asks it of me. Whatever “extra” tip or piece of advice I can offer to a women entrepreneur not quit sure how to best complete a business task…I’m there to help! I encourage and mentor many women not just on a business level but on a motivational and inspirational level as well.

I do all this WHY? Because again…this comes from my inner passion, my purpose and I LOVE what I do! I am fulfilled when women tell me how much I have helped them or how I have encouraged them to do something they were afraid of or even how I confirmed something they already knew they needed to accomplish in their life or business but simply needed some support. After much reflection, consideration and frequent requests…I made a decision.

TheCEOMamma Featured Woman Entrepreneur, Natasha ClarkFull Name: Natasha Clark

Company: The Lioness Group

Position: Founder

Website: www.thelionessgroup.com

Year Founded: 2009

Tell us about yourself and your business: Natasha Clark founded The Lioness Group in 2009 for the entrepreneur, small business owner and large companies that understand the value of keeping a “small business” mentality. Local business owners expressed a need for quality, low-cost writing and public relations services to help their consumer base expand. As a result, a high percentage of their business is from repeat customers and referrals.

The mission of The Lioness Group is to help small business owners and entrepreneurs get their message and passion to their target audience. They teach their clients the importance of branding, consistency and the benefits of learning to create a first-class press release.

What inspired you to start a business? I’ve always been asked if I do freelance work on the side. I never had the courage to actually step out and establish myself as a separate entity. But like so many other twenty-somethings facing this economic crisis, I realized that my future and talents are best left to be managed by me. The Lioness Group will allow me to do that on my own terms.

Share one business goal: My goal is to eventually hire an entire “pride” of smart, modern, ambitious women to work at The Lioness Group.

What would you say contributes to your success? I’m a people person. I love to meet new people and listen to their stories. Listening will get you a long way.

What advice would you give an aspiring entrepreneur? Even when you are wondering why you were crazy enough to become an entrepreneur, remember why you started it, and you’ll get through the day.

Anything else you want to mention about your business? Never, ever give up on your dreams. Believe you already received it, and the blessings will be yours.

Guest Post By: Fabienne Fredrickson

Have you ever been stopped in your marketing tracks because of procrastination and didn’t know where it was coming from? This happened a few times with some of my private clients recently, and we noticed that every time, it wasn’t really procrastination, it was a fear of some sort that was holding them back.

Perhaps you’ve experienced it too? The fear of reaching out to people, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of not doing something right, and the kicker, fear of REJECTION? I don’t think I know anyone who’s not experienced some form of fear of rejection when marketing themselves. I think it’s innate for many of us. Problem is, it holds us back from doing what it takes to get clients. And it’s got to stop.

Fear of rejection keeps people from marketing, from networking, from asking for the sale, reaching out, from getting help, from public speaking, from asking for referrals, and from collaborating with strategic alliances. You’ve heard me say this a thousand times: if you don’t market today, you won’t have clients in six months.

So, understanding that there’s some sort of fear stopping you, what do you do about it? I’ve done a lot of research on this, for my clients, and for myself over the years. I’ve read books, special reports, and anything that was available on the subject. Problem is that most people just GLOSS OVER what you should do.

The “experts” talk about changing your mindset, thinking positively, and all that good stuff. OK, but that’s not practical enough for me. I wanted to know EXACTLY what to do to eliminate the fears and limiting beliefs that have held me back in the past, and that I continually see my clients struggling with.

I’ve discovered there’s more to getting clients than just the OUTER game of Client Attraction (marketing). There’s also an INNER game of Client Attraction (your mindset and beliefs) and if you don’t deal with the inner part, then you’ll keep doing the same things (and making the same money) you’ve been making for years to come. I don’t know about you, but I prefer to continue to grow and make more.

So, I went on an internal search for what the answer was and I found it. I’ve worked (and continue to work) on my personal growth and development, and I’ve broken it down into a series of steps that, when done in sequence, help eliminate the limiting beliefs and fears that hold us back from marketing (and shining, personally) in a big way.

Here’s what you do:

  1. Establish the root fear or limiting belief that’s holding you back from marketing.(Fear of success, fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of overwhelm, fear of what others will think of you, fear of doing it wrong, fear of asking for what you want, fear of saying no to someone, etc.) Let’s pick fear of rejection, just for argument’s sake, since it’s such a biggie with my clients.
  2. Think back to your childhood. What is the earliest memory you have of being rejected? Write it down. (I’m serious, don’t just read this assignment, write it down. That’s how you get results.) If you get stuck, then go back to what the original thought that popped up when you read the assignment. That’s usually the big one that needs to be addressed first, even if you don’t think it is.
  3. Write down ALL the events in life in which you can remember feeling rejected(your parents, kids in grade school, high school, the dating years, cheerleading or sports tryouts, the working world, and of course, since being self-employed).
  4. Now, think about what MEANING you created about yourself as a result of each of those incidents. (“I’m not good enough,” “I’m dumb,” “I’ll never be good at marketing,” “When I reach out, I get rejected,” “I’m not cut out to make a lot of money,” etc. Really spend some time on this, because that’s where the healing begins. Be a hard grader.
  5. Then, make a separate list of how these MEANINGS you created have stopped you in life. Did you stop reaching out? Did you stop taking chances? Did you retreat into a hole? Did you hold back from taking advantage of opportunities that could have advanced you? Write them all down.
  6. Now, go back to the list of meanings you created and ask yourself, “What if what I THINK happened wasn’t actually the case?” Here’s what I mean: If you were rejected by your “crush” in high school after telling this person you liked him, imagine other scenarios other than “I’m unattractive” or “I’m not lovable.” Could they have secretly been dating someone else? Could they have been shy and not known what to say? Could they even have been interested in someone their own gender? Write it ALL down.
  7. This is a list of ALTERNATIVE reasons why they wouldn’t have done the ‘right’ thing by you, rather than thinking you were unattractive or unlovable. Now, look at this list and pick one, because I’ll guarantee you, what you THINK happened is probably not what happened. Each person has their own writing on the wall and even if they said or did something unacceptable, we don’t REALLY know what that reason was (we might never know what was going on for them at that time).
  8. Reevaluate the limiting belief or your fear. Is it REALLY true that you were rejected? Could there have been another reason for what happened? Is it really WORTH your still being affected by this and having lost out on opportunities your whole life because of what one (dumb) person said or did? Is that event really WORTH you being stopped in your marketing now?
  9. Decide to select the ALTERNATIVE reason for what happened and move past the fear. You deserve to not be stuck in your tracks any more. You deserve to be free from what others said or did to you in the past. You deserve to be successful and that’s what I want for you.
  10. If you can’t seem to let the fear go, then just FEEL the fear, and do what it takes anyway. You’ve heard the saying: “Successful people feel the fear too and they do what it takes anyway.” That’s been my experience. When I feel myself getting stopped, I often use the process above, and then I just push through and get things done. Funny thing is, it’s never as bad as what I had feared. Best of all, every time you push through a fear that stops you, you exercise that muscle. After a while, limiting fears or beliefs don’t have a chance against you.

Your Assignment:

Make a point to do the exercise above. Take an afternoon or an hour, and really work through what’s stopping you. It can seem scary at first, but I assure you, when you actually do it, it becomes easy. And it feels so FREEING at the end.

You’ll notice that you will start DOING more than before, taking advantage of opportunities, and getting better results in marketing. That immediately equals more paying clients, more results, and in my experience, financial freedom and being able to live the life you really want. I once read that the view from the other side of fear is SUCCESS. Are you game?

Now, if you clear the fears and still are not sure what to do to get clients in a way that feels easy and authentic to you, it’s time to start doing things differently. The Client Attraction Home Study System™ avoids the “Bright Shiny Object Syndrome” and instead gives you the most important things to do to set up simple, solid marketing systems, so that you consistently fill your pipeline and continually get new clients.

It’s all step-by-step, not a big mishmash of things. So, you do step one of the system, and when you’re done with that, you move on to step two, and so on. All the tools, scripts, templates, and examples are handed to you on a silver platter. Easy. You can get it at TheClientAttractionSystem.com.

The Motivated Sista Circle is Back!

Our question for June: What Motivated You to Start on Your Current Career Path?

Anilia, Motivated Sista

Anilia is an entrepreneur and blogger, who writes about motivation, personal development and self-esteem.

My journey on this path grew from my t-shirt business, BlackGirl Tees. I kept reading that online businesses should implement blogs as a way to draw attention to the business and let customers get a feel for who the owners are. So I started the blog Black Femininity. While writing on issues affecting black women and girls, I constantly had to reign myself in from writing about more personal topics, such as goal-setting and personal development. I found it increasingly difficult to talk about the issues we face without going on these tangents.

One of my strongest traits is being a good listener and I honestly enjoy when friends and family ask me for advice (but I hate when people don’t listen, and then come back and tell you that you were right… but I digress…). I started to notice that I was answering the same questions over and over again, such as “how do I start this new goal, when my mother doesn’t approve?”, “where do you get your motivation from to do all the things you do?”, and “how can I get closer to completing my goals, when I feel so stuck?”.

So I felt that writing about personal development, self-esteem, goal setting and the law of attraction – topics I am more knowledgable about – would be a better tool for other women to use, instead of just limiting myself to news topics that affect black women and girls. I’ve been blogging at Motivated Sista for 10 months now, and feel that I definitely made the right decision. Now I’m ready to take my blog to the next level!

Patrenia, Personal Finance Notebook

Patrenia is an Accredited Financial Counselor and entrepreneur who writes about ideas, education and motivation for financial success at Personal Finance Notebook.

My current path is teaching and discussing the object that’s needed almost as much as oxygen – money. The motivation came from my own personal and work related experiences with money. See, I had no problem making money; keeping more of it was the issue. For my husband and I, maintaining a home and the needs of two growing kids became a roller coaster ride of a growing – declining – depleted savings fund. After many moments of frustration and realizing that we had it all wrong, we became students to learn how money should really be managed and successfully paid off about $93,000 in debt along the way. Being in the mortgage industry, I also noticed that many of my clients had the same money issues. So after recognizing that my clients, most of my friends and family and I had it all wrong…I became compelled to share this information. My hope is that many people will be intrigued with the information I share, seek knowledge and take action to transform their financial lives. I now know that it CAN be done!

CW, Black Women Deserve Better

CW’s blog “Black Women Deserve Better” was an exercise in truth, self-discovery and healing. It is her mission to help Black women get the love, respect and commitment they deserve.

Circa 2001 (Particularly after September 11th), I began deeply contemplating the direction in which my life was moving. Events such as these remind us that life is too short to waste on non-productive endeavors. It was as if myself, and nearly every Black woman who I encountered was on the same hamsterwheel. Stats such as age, height, weight, education level were not a mitigating factor in this phenomenon: On the job, the neighborhood, family, friends and friends of friends. Our stories were eerily similar. Being trapped (self-imposed or otherwise) in our routine…Or shall I say stagnation? Visiting the same hang-out spots, dating the same types of men and having the same conversations ABOUT those alleged men. This scenario played out time and time again over the years. At some point along the way, it was unfathomable that I was the only one sick and tired of being sick and tired. Without veering too far off topic, a number of Black women are familiar with being told:

  • How to feel
  • What their standards should be
  • What is “expected” of them

Topics which have been discussed ad-nauseum on the BWE (black women empowerment) blogs. I found it quite amusing that for all the things we ought to do, our situation overall wasn’t much improving. I observed an increase in OOW (out of wedlock) children, decrease in marriage, abdication of male responsibility, bashing of Black women and the haphazard “dating”. We are well aware of the negative behaviors which manifest as a result, but nonetheless, our children have suffered most. I want to give our daughters a fighting chance at living quality adult lives, with healthy relationships. This is one of the reasons I began “Black Women Deserve Better” three years ago. My book (by the same name) reveals the mind control and deceptions used (often by “our own”), to keep Sisters in their place. But my work doesn’t stop there. I periodically facilitate workshops and design courses to assist Black women in navigating the treacherous waters. In addition, one of the new hats I’m wearing is “Dating & Life Coach”. The goal is to uncover the real reasons why we often run into walls -and I have already ran into most of them a while back! My desire is for Black women not only to want change, but also to BE THAT CHANGE. Know that our daughters are counting on us!

Anilia’s note: please check out CW’s book, Black Women Deserve Better and her online workshop, Building Upon The Change.

Kim, Fit Sisters Boot Camp

Kim is a teacher by day and has her own fitness business where she helps women to get into the best shape of their lives.

I combined my love of teaching with my love of staying healthy to start my boot camp business. I believe that you must put your health first, because if you’re not healthy then your quality of life is at jeopardy. Staying healthy is a lifestyle — not a one-time act. Once you get into the groove of that lifestyle and start reaping the benefits, you will never go back. I love helping and showing people “the way” to a better quality and more fulfilling way of life by putting one’s self first.

Danielle, The Style and Beauty Doctor

Danielle is a stylist and makeup artist with a financial industry background. She is also president of Urban Glamour LLC, an image consulting company that offers personal styling, wedding, and makeup services. She also edits a fashion and beauty blog, The Style and Beauty Doctor.

My motivation came just when I was on line waiting for my college graduation to start. I was getting my BBA in Marketing and was kind of just standing there thinking about my future… when I overheard two girls saying they would take classes at The Fashion Institute of Technology. Who knew eavesdropping could take you on your path! I knew I always wanted to do something in fashion — in high school people would often ask me what to wear with what — I just never thought I could make a career out of it. Several months after graduation, I enrolled in the Image Consulting program and then completed the two year program. I’m so glad I made my decision. Never before have I felt so “myself” than when I can tell someone what looks great on their body type and/or skin tone. I love what I do!

Tamyka, TheCEOMamma

Tamyka is a wife, mother and entrepreneur. She’s the Founder/Owner of TheCEOMamma and teaches women entrepreneurs how to build a business on a budget.

There were a couple of things that motivated me to journey down my current career path. The first being that I was gifted with an entrepreneurial Spirit. I knew from a very young age I wasn’t cut out to work for someone else. I always had the drive and passion to “create my own”…whatever it may be!

The second motivational force is that I truly enjoy helping people. Not just in business, but however I can. I’ve always seemed to attract people who felt comfortable enough to share with me their deepest worries and concerns and I’d freely offer up support, encouragement and guidance.

Growing up, I was often misunderstood and my ideas often went unsupported, especially when I started my first business in Direct Sales (even by my own family). As an adult, things didn’t change much. I began to realize many entrepreneurs experience the same things and I wanted to be of help to those who needed it.

In my business, I share many resources and tips on building and marketing a business on a budget and have inspired many women in the process. I know this is the right path for me because I’m truly fulfilled in what I do! Give and it will come back to you, go measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over…is what I believe and live.

We would love for you to share what motivated YOU to start on your current career path! Visit Motivated Sista to leave your reply.

A new year, a new decade even is upon us. This is the time when most of us set goals and make resolutions to improve our lives. It also brings to mind the question, What is Holding You Back From Being Successful?

It appears the number one enemy that keeps people from fulfilling their dreams is Fear. This is an emotional response that serves its purpose. For instance fear is what keeps us away from dangerous situations; you don’t walk on the edge of jagged cliff for fear of falling off the side and causing bodily harm. Rightly so fear does help us, but if we let it, fear can also hinder us. Our personal fears such as fear of failure is what holds us back from making our dreams come true. It doesn’t have to be that way though.

The important thing to remember when dealing with fears is to recognize them, acknowledge their presence and then decide to conquer the instinct and learn how to deal with them. Fear will only hold you back from reaching your goal of being successful if you give in and allow it to take over.

Many of us face a crossroads at different times in our lives. We come to a place where we have to determine which road to take. The question becomes, “Which road will you take?”

You could choose the same path that you have always been traveling on; the one that has always left you wanting more. Perhaps you are ready to turn on to a new avenue. Maybe you will decide to take a street that will be filled with uncertainty but can add adventure and a hint of mystery that could become life altering. This could be the journey that will lead you to exactly the place where you have always wanted to be. An area complete with all the desires of your heart. Can you picture the scenario in your minds eye now? Visualization is a very good thing and one that just might help your dreams to come true.

So just What is Holding You Back From Being Successful? This is a question that only you can answer. Are you ready to begin a new venture that could change your life and lead you to where you’d really like to be? Take a chance and go forward; you just might surprise yourself with this new challenge

Do you realize that no matter the complexity of the mind, you still possess the ability to control your thinking? Did you know that by training the way you think and focus, you can control your mindset?

Mindset is defined as a way of thinking; an attitude or opinion, especially a habitual one.

That means we do NOT have to give in to the negative, self sabotaging  thoughts we sometimes harbor nor the limiting beliefs we often bestow upon ourselves. The saying holds true…what you think about you bring about.

With this being known, why are we afraid to STEP OUT and STEP UP to accept what we deserve? Why is it so hard for us to believe that, YES we deserve the very best?

My challenge to you is to get in-tuned with yourself this week. Start to recognize when you begin to give into fear, negative thoughts, limiting beliefs, etc. Change your way of thinking by binding up the negatives and filling yourself up with positives.

Speak life into your situations and business, focus your energy on doing the things that will help you move forward. Eliminate the negative activities and people in your life that hinder your growth. Make the decision NOW that you WILL operate with a positive mindset and get into the habit of positive thinking.

Are you up for the challenge? Share your thoughts and comments below, I’d love to hear how you are doing. Let’s motivate and encourage each other!

Watch this short video to get started on the right track. I hope you enjoy it!
