When I first began marketing online, I had already heard the phrase, “The fortune is in the follow-up”, a billion times as a Network Marketer. I can admit, following up used to be a struggle for me, even in my direct sales business because I always felt like following up, meant I would be seen as a nuisance.

Since those early days, I’ve learned (the hard way), the value in staying in touch with prospects on a regular basis. I also realized that when my way of thinking changed toward the idea of reconnecting, my income began to grow.

The changing point for me came when a customer I finally called after months…boldly asked me, “why did it take so long for you to call me?” I had no answer other than I had been making excuses.

After I got off the phone, I really thought about what she said and made a decision right then and there, I would follow-up and follow-up until I was told outright – NO.

If following up has been a struggle for you OR something you’ve been avoiding in your business, here are a few reason WHY you need to adopt the habit immediately.

Understand, it’s not about you. Far to often as small business owners, we don’t always recognize that we have a fear of rejection. As if someone saying, no I’m not interested - means they are saying no to us personally, which is not the case.

We have to learn to take ourselves out of the situation and focus on meeting the needs of our prospect. No doesn’t necessarily mean Never, it simply means Not Right Now. Before you pick up the phone to call your prospect, take your personal feelings out of it…this is about business and having confidence that what you are offering is of value to them.

You show you care. No matter how you choose to reach out to your potential customers, it shows them you care enough to at the very least…check in with them. You never really know someone’s financial situation or what their circumstance may be.

When you look at it, as being all about timing, following up is just the logical thing to do. I’ve discovered that the more I follow-up with potential clients and business partners…the stronger the relationship becomes and the more trust is being built. When your prospects KNOW you are staying in touch because you genuinely care about making a difference in their life, when the time is right…they will buy.

You become trustworthy. I can’t count how many times my customers thanked me for “checking in” with them each month. In the world we live in today, people are always busy with their everyday life. No matter how many times your customer may say they will get back in touch with you, 9 times out of 10 they won’t.

More times than not, they aren’t being intentional when they don’t call you back. So, when you begin to follow-up with them regularly, they begin to expect it and eventually…they are ready to do business with you. Because you’ve demonstrated consistency in your efforts, your prospect sees you as a reliable business woman and be more likely to refer you to their friends!

The National Sales Association statics show:

2% of sales are made on the 1st contact

3% of sales are made on the 2nd contact

5% of sales are made on the 3rd contact

10% of sales are made on the 4th contact

80% of sales are made on the 5th-12th contact

Just imagine, if you Follow-Up 5-12 times, you increase your chances of closing the sale goes up 40 times!

So the next time you are tempted to NOT follow-up with your prospects, consider how it could negatively affect your reputation as an independent or small business owner or even give the impression of being unprofessional and uncaring.

Many of us know the value of blogging for business and sharing quality content across social media networks to establish our brand, but a lot of business owners don’t know how to really do it effectively to make money.

Blogging and content marketing are two of the most highly effective, inexpensive ways for entrepreneurs to get started online, building their brand and business. Not only that, it allows you the ability to position, package and promote yourself to your ideal audience on a much larger scale.

Recently, I had the honor of being the guest of Pam Perry, PR Coach on her Synergy Energy Show – Time for Real Talk about Making Money Online. It was a great privilege to share with her listeners, as we discussed:

How valuable having a blog is for your business

How quality content can impact your brand

How to get set up and started blogging the right way

How to attract your ideal clients and business partners

How you can generate additional streams of income

If you are doing business online, chances are you are involved in some sort of regular social media activity. From big companies down to the small entrepreneur start-up, just about everyone can recognize the impact social media has on a business.

As easy as it is for the average “Joe” to engage in social media marketing and the almost over bearing awareness this method has pressed upon us, its almost impossible for one not to see the benefit of being part of it.

Even with all the perks and promises social media marketing brings to the table, especially for entrepreneurs on a shoestring budget, so many find themselves lost and confused about how to really pull it all together to create a satisfying result within their business.

With the constant evolving and the seemingly never-ending demand of having to learn something new almost daily, it can be challenging for a new marketer to keep up, let alone “figure it out”.

Social media marketing is a fast paced approach to building a business with many tricks and tactics to achieve a level of desired success. It is also quit obvious, some are far more fruitful than others.

It makes you wonder, is there really a secret formula and is it possible to truly master social media marketing?

In my opinion, I don’t believe anyone can truly master social media marketing. Yes, there are surly people out there who have established a great presence and brand for themselves by discovering a niche, crafted their skill and are able to really standout in the industry.

What makes these individuals so unique is that they have mastered an area of social media marketing that they have a great passion for which allows them to move in a position of authority and leadership.

Is there a SECRET to social media marketing success?

My answer: Yes & No

The reason I say this is because the “secrets”, honestly boil down to simply being strategies that work. Often times when a marketer stumbles upon a highly effective strategy, they keep it a secret because they don’t want to create competition for themselves.

I look at it from another angle, all marketers learn from each other and eventually, someone is going to figure it out and tell everyone else. On top of that, there are always new entrepreneurs and small business owners emerging who want and need to learn the ropes.

There are so many “secrets” to social media success out there, it’s really all about finding those that will work for you and your business because realistically, you can’t implement them all.

What I have found to be the biggest “secret” to social media success that many overlook is, STRATEGY!

We are so tempted to just get on Facebook and post something just because all of our friends or business associates are doing it. But those who have success on social media are able to recognize that just like traditional marketing, a plan and a goal must be in place…FIRST.

3 Reasons Why You Need a Strategy:

1. To achieve your goals in a timely manner. So obviously first, you should have a specific (not generic) goal set. Assuming you have set a 30 day goal to generate new traffic to your website, you are now able to focus on creating the tasks that need to be done within that time frame. Since your goal is specific and set, you will also be able to determine what you have to do and the type of activities you will need to put in place to reach your target date.

When you have a goal, it will eliminate the amount of wasted time spent not only posting random and meaningless updates to Facebook or Twitter but also limit the amount of time you spend on these spaces as well.

Time is the most valuable commodity you have and should be spent wisely.

2. To effectively and purposefully engage your target audience. Another important reason to have a strategy is to understand exactly who your market is. Based on your goal, you will have a clearer picture on how to go about attracting the right audience and how to interact with them.

Your strategy is designed to assist you with being effective in your marketing efforts instead of aimlessly hoping that something you post or tweet will catch the attention of someone who may potentially be interested in what you have to offer.

It’s not about what you as the business owner thinks is a great piece of material, it has to be about what you the “marketer” knows is the right information your target audience wants.

3. To produce quality content and develop a solid conversion structure. As a social media marketer, your overall objective is to create compelling content that sparks a reaction to act….PERIOD! If your not doing that, your wasting your time and need to quickly figure out where there is a disconnect and fix it.

When you have taken the steps to design a complete strategy, getting your target from point A to point B becomes a snap. If your goal is to get people to your website, you must have something in place for them to “DO” once they get there. The finishing piece to your strategy should be a conversion – a new subscriber to your list, a product sale, a new client or customer, etc.

Of course, there are many more “secrets” to social media success but having a strategy is by far, the most vital because it is designed to get results.

If you would like to learn more about successful social media marketing and how you can get the results you want, Click Here to Listen to my recent Teleseminar:

Have a System and a Strategy

The first thing you need is a system and a strategy. You have to first ask you self what you are hoping to achieve by using Twitter in your business – is it promoting new products, finding targeted prospects or keeping in touch with your customers. You need to know this to be successful because without knowing who your “tweets” are aimed at you can’t create targeted messages.

You might also want to have multiple twitter accounts – one for attracting new prospects, and another for staying in touch with your existing customers or clients.

Customise Your Profile

Customise your profile and make sure that your “bio” is complete so that you stand out from the crowd. You want people who visit your profile to get a good idea of who you are and what you stand for and ensure that your site is attractive and representative of YOU. Have a good photo that is also the same as you use on other social media so your brand carries through.

Make Your Content Count

With short little bursts of content and links, you make it easy for people to see your product, and share it with their followers. The fact that you only have 140 characters makes this very effective once you get the hang of it.

Twitter isn’t hard to use for marketing. Using the platform to your advantage is like anything else – practice and testing and as you get more proficient and learn more you will get more traffic.

Engage With Your Followers

With short bursts of conversation, content and links it becomes easy for people to see your product and share it with followers. The key here is to make sure that your posts are fresh and frequent so it is always on the mind of your Twitter followers. The more that you give them that they enjoy the more likely it is that your posts will be shared with their followers and “re-tweeted” and your content is always on their mind. It also shows that you are a real person.

Make sure you know your followers and if they start a conversation with you send them somewhere you can answer their questions such as your Facebook page or your website or if it requires a personal and private response then give them your email address and ask them for theirs.

If someone talks about your product make sure that you take the time to say “thank you” publicly as it shows that you value their opinions.

Make sure that you keep your website/blog up to date with content and good headlines. Tweet your own content and use different headlines as one headline might appeal more than another and give you a better click-through. Keep your opening sentence or tip interesting so the reader is enticed to read further (back to your blog post)

Become an authority in your niche by providing and sharing valuable information with your community. This may be your own content or content from someone you respect and follow in your niche.

Try and adopt a ‘persona’ on Twitter that your followers will recognise. It might be as simple as ending your tweet with a few words that are your “by-line”

Twitter can be seen as one of the best ways to market your products and at the same time build a strong relationship with your subscribers.Once you get this right it will lead to more contacts, more traffic and more sales.

Even if you have very little money to begin with, you can still get started with little to no money at all. With a little creativity and determination, you can turn a passion into a profit.

Here are 5 Ways to Start Making Money Online

Affiliate Marketing is when you refer customers to a company or business and you earn a commission when the person you refer, purchases a product. This is an easy way to start making money online because there is usually no cost to get started with affiliate marketing.

You can begin immediately promoting products to your network circle and email contacts. Affiliate Marketing is not a way to get rich quick, you still have to operate with a strategy and a goal and consistently working, like a real business.

You have to be selective when it comes to choosing the products you will promote. You cannot simply pick products with a huge payout, instead, the products should be quality and be of interest and offer a benefit to your market.

There are a few ways to get started with Affiliate Marketing including Amazon, Commission Junction, ClickBank. You can also join my affiliate program!

Information Product is another way you could make money online. If you are able to teach others a step-by-step process to learning something new or can clearly explain ‘how-to’ reach a specific goal or resolve a particular problem, you could create an information product.

Wikipedia defines an Information Product as, ‘any final product in the form of information that a person needs to have.’

You could create an information product on nearly any topic of your choice and deliver it online in the form of a written ebook, article or tutorial, video, even audio.

The key to creating a great selling information product is to not only be knowledgeable about the topic, but also making sure there is a demand for the information in the first place.

Selling information online is a great way to create a product that you can profit from over and over again.

Offering Services and getting paid for your skills, knowledge and experience can generate a generous part-time or even full-time income from home.

Web and graphic designers, consultants, coaches, freelancers and other service professionals have learned to market themselves and display their skills to drum up business online. You can set your own prices, choose your own hours and design a business in your spare time that fits your lifestyle by simply tapping into what you already know.

Network Marketing is a way to start a home based or online business by partnering with a company, paying a start-up cost and becoming an independent representative marketing and selling products or services to earn commission and bonuses.

Companies like Mary Kay, Avon and Amway are all examples of a Network Marketing business. As an independent representative, you are responsible for building your customer base and sharing the companies products and services to earn an income.

These companies offer training and marketing material to help you with promotion and allow you to build a team of other independent representatives which provides additional income as they build their business as well.

It is important to do your research before you join any network marketing company. The Direct Selling Association is a great place to start as well as the Better Business Bureau. I started my first Network Marketing business in 2002, which gave me the flexibility to work around my family.

To this day, I still enjoy working from home and earning an income from my Network Marketing business! You can learn more about what I do here.

Selling Advertising on your website or blog could also be a helpful way to supplement your income considering of course you have a decent and steady flow of traffic.

Early on in my business (before I even thought about selling ad space), I got offers from other women entrepreneurs wanting to advertise right here on TheCEOMamma blog. I didn’t have high traffic but I did have a market that was of interest to others.

So even if you don’t have lots of traffic, you could still make some money providing ad space if you have great and targeted, regularly updated content.

These 5 ways are the same ways I use to earn money online. I am a firm believer in creating multiple streams of income as an entrepreneur and these are the easiest ways to get started quickly.

Though these methods may be easy to start and can create a nice extra income, you have to be willing to invest the time it will take to learn how to market effectively to make steady money.

Are you earning money online using any of these methods? What has been your experience, good or bad? Share in the comments below:

The organization was offering free promotion for your business. Most people would jump at the chance to get some free advertising, but I always do my research first.

I decided to poke around the Project P.U.S.H. website and see what I could uncover. What I did find, was very empowering.

The Founder is Rhonda Nails, a wife, mother, educator, business owner and entrepreneur, someone many of you can relate too. She started Project P.U.S.H. after deciding there was no Plan B…The PUSH is the Plan!

After reading more, Rhonda’s mission for this organization really resonated with me because for me, there was NO Plan B. The mission is to move people to “PUSH” beyond average.

Many of us fear moving beyond average and turning our back on mediocrity because it has become so comfortable. But, what would happen if we all decided to PUSH beyond that?

When I made the decision to step out of fear and do what I knew I was created to do, this is exactly what I did:

“Every underdog story is built on the P.U.S.H. slogan…P.ursue U.ntil S.uccess H.appens. It is about the ability to boldly step into your purpose, your goal or your next level.”

Do you ever wonder why your marketing is missing the mark? More than likely, it’s because your marketing message is not speaking the volumes it should be to connect with your target audience.

Let’s start from the beginning.

One common misconception is that your marketing message is the mission and purpose of your company. Even though the two are closely connected, your mission is not your message.

First and foremost, your message has to be compelling. It should not only be able to immediately attract the attention of your ideal client, but speak into their soul. Your message has to assure them that YOU can solve their biggest problem.

When your message can emotionally connect with your audience and make them feel you are speaking directly to them, you are on the right track. You will naturally attract the exact market you desire to serve.

When your message connects with the deepest need of your ideal client, they feel they can trust you and are willing to work with you because your message was clear enough to confirm with them, you know your stuff and you can help.

So often, we get caught up in creating our marketing message and wanting to “share” what WE have done or the numerous awards and accolades we’ve acquired. That’s all fine and dandy, however, your ideal client doesn’t necessarily care about all you’ve done…they want to know, “What Can You Do For ME!”

How can you create a compelling marketing message?

Know Your Market – Before you can create your message, you have to know who your specific market is…and no, it is NOT everybody. Really get clear and narrow down who exactly you will serve considering your mission, purpose and the products/service you offer.

Know their problem – Next, you must identify the biggest problem or challenge they are facing. What is it that keeps them up at night, what is it that frustrates them the most because they don’t know how to solve “it”.

Offer your solution – This is where you will present your market with your remarkable solution to their problem. This is your opportunity to share your compelling, “What’s in it for them” message. Let them see the benefits you provide and how your product/service can resolve their problem with ease. This is the step where you need to connect with their emotion and really be able to relate in words, to what they feel.

Share the result – Your message needs to be able to convey to your audience, what will be the outcome after working with you or using your product. Clearly express what result they can expect.

Make it relateable - Why should they chose you over your competitor? Easy, because they can relate to you on more than one level. Your message should create a trustworthy feeling because your audience feels you understand them 100%. For example, if your target market is work at home moms who want to use social media to build a business online, and you are in fact, a work at home mom doing just that…how much more will your market relate to you over another company offering a similar service but is run by a man in the corporate world?

The main key point to remember when creating your marketing message is that it is NOT about you or your company and what you do…save that for your mission. Your message is about connecting with and communicating to your ideal client, and clearly expressing that you understand their needs and you have the solution to their problem.
