How Regular Follow Up Can Increase Your Sales & Repeat Business

When I first began marketing online, I had already heard the phrase, “The fortune is in the follow-up”, a billion times as a Network Marketer. I can admit, following up used to be a struggle for me, even in my direct sales business because I always felt like following up, meant I would be seen as a nuisance.

Since those early days, I’ve learned (the hard way), the value in staying in touch with prospects on a regular basis. I also realized that when my way of thinking changed toward the idea of reconnecting, my income began to grow.

The changing point for me came when a customer I finally called after months…boldly asked me, “why did it take so long for you to call me?” I had no answer other than I had been making excuses.

After I got off the phone, I really thought about what she said and made a decision right then and there, I would follow-up and follow-up until I was told outright – NO.

If following up has been a struggle for you OR something you’ve been avoiding in your business, here are a few reason WHY you need to adopt the habit immediately.

Understand, it’s not about you. Far to often as small business owners, we don’t always recognize that we have a fear of rejection. As if someone saying, no I’m not interested - means they are saying no to us personally, which is not the case.

We have to learn to take ourselves out of the situation and focus on meeting the needs of our prospect. No doesn’t necessarily mean Never, it simply means Not Right Now. Before you pick up the phone to call your prospect, take your personal feelings out of it…this is about business and having confidence that what you are offering is of value to them.

You show you care. No matter how you choose to reach out to your potential customers, it shows them you care enough to at the very least…check in with them. You never really know someone’s financial situation or what their circumstance may be.

When you look at it, as being all about timing, following up is just the logical thing to do. I’ve discovered that the more I follow-up with potential clients and business partners…the stronger the relationship becomes and the more trust is being built. When your prospects KNOW you are staying in touch because you genuinely care about making a difference in their life, when the time is right…they will buy.

You become trustworthy. I can’t count how many times my customers thanked me for “checking in” with them each month. In the world we live in today, people are always busy with their everyday life. No matter how many times your customer may say they will get back in touch with you, 9 times out of 10 they won’t.

More times than not, they aren’t being intentional when they don’t call you back. So, when you begin to follow-up with them regularly, they begin to expect it and eventually…they are ready to do business with you. Because you’ve demonstrated consistency in your efforts, your prospect sees you as a reliable business woman and be more likely to refer you to their friends!

The National Sales Association statics show:

2% of sales are made on the 1st contact
3% of sales are made on the 2nd contact
5% of sales are made on the 3rd contact
10% of sales are made on the 4th contact
80% of sales are made on the 5th-12th contact

Just imagine, if you Follow-Up 5-12 times, you increase your chances of closing the sale goes up 40 times!

So the next time you are tempted to NOT follow-up with your prospects, consider how it could negatively affect your reputation as an independent or small business owner or even give the impression of being unprofessional and uncaring.

Michelle Harper Cheatham – For me the advice I got was to be flexible and open minded. That gives you more options and u will expand to grow.

When you have firsthand experience with your products or service, it makes it that much easier for you to share honestly, the benefits with others. You will be better able to explain how it works, how to use it and what results can be expected. This helps assure your customers you are knowledgeable and displays professionalism.
Treat Your Business Like a Business – Most people fail in their network marketing business because quite frankly, they don’t treat it like a business. Do not mistake the idea of being your own boss as being able to establish a lucrative income from home working only one day a week. Your business is NOT a hobby and you need to commit to building it in order for it to grow. It takes a great amount of time and dedication early on to reach a sustainable and consistent profit.
Take Advantage of Training and Education – If your company offers training meetings, seminars, conferences, etc., it is in your best interest to attend. These are designed to help you learn more product knowledge, marketing skills and sales techniques that allow you to better serve your customers and run your business.
Learn to Set Goals – In order to be successful and achieve the things you want, you have to plan your success. Take time each week and month to write down your sales goals, team building goals, etc. and create your plan to make it happen. If you want to see results, you have to know what action steps you need to reach it.
Create a Working List – This is a very vital part of growing your business. In network marketing, you start with a list of people you know. As time goes on, that list should grow from referrals and new people you meet. Network marketing is a people business so if you don’t want to fail, you must have a list to work from and be willing to contact a minimum of 5 people a day about your business.
Growing Your Team – Most network marketing companies offer you extra bonus commissions when you bring other people in to the business. To earn a continuously growing commission early on, establishing a team to leverage your time will give you just that, while providing you extra income. Be open to utilizing every aspect of your companies pay structure to make the most amount of money.
Follow Up is a MUST – In this industry, following up is imperative in every area of your business. If you hold a presentation and everyone doesn’t buy that night, you follow up for a sale later. When you interview someone about partnering with you in the business and you don’t get an immediate yes, you follow up until you get a definite – NO. When talking to women, I find that many don’t want to seem annoying or as if they are bothering anyone. Being in network marketing for nearly 10 years, I find that people appreciate the follow up because 9 times out of 10, they are interested but for some personal reason, they don’t have the means at THAT time. This is YOUR BUSINESS…you stop following up when they say NO, I’m NOT interested.

Following these 7 tips combined with patience, consistency and determination will give you the freedom and flexibility to be the proud owner of a profitable home based business!

Your Online Network Marketing Strategy SUCKS!

Let me first start off by saying, my intentions are never to offend anyone even though I realize what I’m about to share may indirectly strike a nerve with some of you, because I’m calling it as I see it. Try not to get defensive, I’m simply expressing my opinion (which I’m entitled too) and I will not apologize for it. Hopefully, you will take what I share, and reevaluate your online network marketing strategy…quickly!

The reason I can be this blunt is because I know what I’m talking about. I have been a network marketer for nearly 10 years and in the first 2-3 of those years, my online network marketing SUCKED! YES, I can admit it…because since then, I have learned a lot and my success has turned around completely.

You may be someone who recognizes your doing something wrong because the lack of leads generated or the fact you’re not making any sales. Or perhaps you are getting leads and making sales but there is no growth within your organization or many repeat sales.

It’s really not your fault that your online marketing strategy sucks, like most of us, your only doing what your company trained you to do – if you even got training at all. The problem with many of these companies is that they are teaching traditional marketing techniques that rarely fair well in today’s online market.

When we bring our business online, we often make the mistake of trying to promote it in a traditional sense because our companies tell us, “everyone can benefit from our product or service”. Naturally, our mind begins to conceive the idea that the internet will produce for us an endless stream of cash in hand, pool of customers.

So if this holds true, why isn’t it working for you? What are you doing that is causing your online marketing to suck?

Here are the 5 top reasons why your network marketing business is not growing online.

You are ruining your credibility – You regularly post your sales, company promotions and discounts across all your social network platforms. Of course you are excited about your products however, operating your business this way devalues what you offer and lacks professionalism. There is nothing wrong with discretion, share this information with only those who are interested in the first place.
You are attempting to market to everyone – Again, you know your products and services are great, but no matter what your company tells you…I’m sorry, everyone DOES NOT want it! Stop offering to everyone whether it is through status updates, email or inbox messages, you must be selective. Learning to target your specific market will yield much better results and prevent you from missing the opportunity to establish solid business partnerships.
You are promoting a company replicated website – Having a company website is a great tool to share with prospective customers or business partners you are following up with but using this as your main website does not allow you to stand out from other reps within your company or give prospects a reason to want to do business with you. Instead, send people to your own branded website or blog where you display your area of knowledge and expertise while encouraging a personal connection with you instead of using a generic approach.
You are promoting your company instead of branding you – The harsh reality of this is nobody cares about your company’s accolades, facts or what makes them so great. People do business with people –people they like. You need to make yourself stand out amongst the sea of other independent reps in your company. Give people a reason to want to shop with you are partner with you.
You are looking for customers and not business partners – The biggest reason why most network marketers are not growing in their business is because they are online looking for customers. Network marketing is a people business, as stated above, people are far more likely to do business with people they know, like and trust. With the millions of individuals already selling “something” online, mix that with the number of reps in your company selling the same thing as you, it is highly unlikely you will earn a consistent amount of income online that will sustain you. Sell your products offline and focus on building your business team/organization online. Statistics show individuals online seeking a business opportunity far out way those looking to buy products.

These are just a few of the reasons why your network marketing business may not be growing online. I suggest taking some time to discover what you may be doing wrong and correct it to start getting the results you deserve.

How to Get Rich Quick…Really?

You’ve seen them. The ‘Get Rich Quick’ Ads promising overnight riches with little to no work involved. They sound so enticing, so promising, especially to the people who are desperately seeking a work from home opportunity.

But is it really that easy?

It’s like the old saying goes…if it sounds to good to be true then most likely it is. I mean think about it, if it were really that easy to make thousands of dollars in 7 days, don’t you think everyone would be doing it?

The fact of the matter is, so many people desire to have a very successful and financially sound home based business and believe the hype. Unfortunately, that’s all it is – hype.

The Reality Is… to get rich, you have to work hard at it, to get rich quick means your going to have to work even harder. Do you honestly believe Donald Trump got rich overnight?

The sad truth is that when you fail to plan the ‘HOW’ you will get rich, you plan to fail. Starting a business that will grow and provide a nice secure financial cushion takes time to build. You must invest the time it will take to do your research and plan your path to success.

According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), it is estimated that 50% of small businesses fail within the first 5 years and that number rises to approximately 75% of small businesses failing within the very first year of business.

How Can You Guarantee Your Business Will Succeed?

Unfortunately there is no guarantee that your business will be a success, however you can give yourself a head start by first doing your research, planning and getting organized. You will also have to commit to working hard, being patient and take all the necessary steps to be a success.

Starting a business from the ground up is not for everyone. It takes a certain entrepreneurial mindset and level of dedication to take on such a task. Even if you choose to start a direct sales business or partner with a network marketing company, you will still have to work hard at developing your business.

Can you believe it? I did it again…

I almost can’t believe it either but what can I say, it’s just the kind of girl I am! I’m feeling so excited and giddy…like a kid on Christmas morning. I always trust my instincts 100%, not only in my personal life but even when it comes to business. That’s why I know I made the right decision.

Some may think I’m a serial entrepreneur but I just believe if an opportunity presents itself, the least I can do is be open-minded and willing to learn more…

So, that’s just what I did and have created an additional stream of income for me and my family!

I’m fully aware that I already operate a business online and even earn money with the various affiliate programs I’m involved with but let’s be honest, like many of you, the recent decline of the economy has affected me too! (I’m just being real)

I realized this was the perfect time for me to get involved with a network marketing company that would not only allow me to put immediate cash in my pocket (which is always nice) but earn residual income as well!

Especially with baby number 6 arriving in February, this gives me plenty of time to create a nice cushion of income before she gets here.

I’ve been involved in network marketing since 2002 and truly love being my own boss and representing a company and product I believe in (especially consumable products). Since my family is my first priority and my time is limited, I’m always happy when I can build a business online from the comfort of my own home.

Have you ever wondered how you could build a community around your business? It would be nice to have a bunch of people who willingly come together and share their thoughts and opinions about your business, wouldn’t it? Before you think it’s impossible to create such an environment around your company, let me explain.

A community can be defined as a group of people sharing the same interests and ideas. That’s what makes social media so amazing because it allows people from all over the world to come together online and communicate with each other about the common interests they all share.

It’s really easy to get people to come together and communicate about your business. Just like in real life, you engage the people who share your same interest then you start a conversation. Of course online, your conversation would be in the form of content. It’s up to you to determine in what way people would like to receive content from you, for example: video, articles, tweets…you get the idea. Content is what brings people together therefore, it creates a community.

If you have established your business online even if it’s to the smallest degree, you’ve probably already connected and have some sort of relationship with people who believe in what you are doing. Well guess what? These are the people who are a part of your community!

Now all you have to do is continue to focus your content at speaking directly to your community. So many times I have seen bloggers and internet marketers try to reach such a broad group of people and it comes through in their writing as generic and bland. You can’t please the masses, you have to connect with people who share your interests.

When your able to share your experience with your community and give content to them that creates interaction and sparks communication, they will be willing to engage because they know you understand their needs and offer solutions.

Creating a community doesn’t have to be difficult. You don’t even have to start your own social network (unless of course you want to!) You could however, start a group in an existing social community like TheCEOMamma Network.

Your Blog is also a great way to share your content and encourage interaction with your readers. You can get really creative by asking questions to your readers and requesting feedback or opinions. Having a Facebook Fan Page for your business makes a great community environment as well. It will require a bit more moderation and active participation on your part, but it’s still a good way to build relationships.

Believe it or not, Twitter can be great for creating your business community too! You can quickly share information and links with other people who share your interests. It gives you a way to invite them into your space and allows them to learn more about you and what you do.

As you can see, creating a community around your business is not only easy but can be fun as you connect with like minded people and grow your business at the same time!
