Social Media Marketing is like caring for a newborn, when you are patient and nurturing in the early stages of development, you will create a well rounded, strong and respectable business. Just like it takes time raising a child into a mature adult, your social media marketing efforts require of you the same commitment of time.
If your goal is to establish yourself and your business online, you should first have a clear understanding of what Social Media is and what it is not.
Social Media is NOT:
- For everybody or every business. Just because it seems as though everyone is doing it, doesn’t mean you should necessarily jump on the bandwagon. If your not willing to LEARN the ropes and APPLY the skills…you won’t last very long.
- Easy by any means. Not only do you have to learn how to do it, you have to dedicate a great deal of time to mastering the craft on a daily basis. Yes, its easy to set up your Facebook or Twitter account but what good is it if your wasting time using them improperly?
- About gaining thousands of followers, friends and subscribers. Although some may find it easy to do this across various social media platforms, it’s really about building valuable connections and relationships.
- A simple way to sell your products or services. I think many people get confused about this one. Everyone you “friend” or “follow” does NOT automatically become your “prospective target”. Don’t assume everyone is interested in what you have, sell or offer…PERIOD!
These are just a few examples of what social media is not (I’m sure you get the picture!)
When I first began using social media as a way to build my business blog, my goal for the entire first year was to provide quality rich content, share my experience and expertise and establish my presence amongst my peers, but more importantly to my target audience.
I had to nurture my social media marketing strategies to take care of the needs of my audience. A little over a year later, I’m still doing that because that’s what works!
Nurture means – to foster, help develop and help to grow.
How are you nurturing your social media?
Statistics show that it can take up to 6 months before you see results, or even longer depending on your applied efforts. So when using social media, you shouldn’t expect instant or over night success.
When done properly, nurturing your social media marketing will deliver to you a bundle of exposure, new clients and generous income.
