You’ve created, designed and launched a website (or blog) for your business and now anxiously await the stamped of traffic you hope to accumulate as a result of the many hours of marketing you put in. You know you have amazing products and offer outstanding service, but what if your visitors choose not to buy during their first visit to your site?

If you fail to offer your website visitors the option to subscribe to your website or blog so that you can follow up with them at another time, you risk the chance of loosing that visitor forever. You worked hard on creating your site but what good will that do you if you aren’t able to reconnect with your visitors?

A huge part of building a profitable business online is learning how to implement successful marketing strategies that get you the results you want. Before profits can start rolling in consistently, you have to have an audience to market to, and what better way to do that than with Email Marketing!

Email Marketing provides a few great benefits for small business owners. Using this form of marketing allows you to establish and build a loyal relationship with people who are already interested in what you have to offer and gives you a way to stay in touch with new and current clients and continue to offer them products or services that meet their interests.

To set up an email marketing campaign for your business website or blog, you first need to choose a email marketing service provider. I personally use and recommend MailChimp.com. They offer a free service with great features and do not include ads in your outgoing emails. Other services you may want to check out are; aweber.com, icontact.com, constantcontact.com and madmimi.com just to name a few.

Once you choose your service, you can than create your email campaigns and set up autoresponders that will automatically send out pre-written messages (by you) to go out to your list at times you choose.

Each service provides special code so that you can add a subscription box to your website for your visitors to subscribe, or opt-in to your mailing list. (Watch my video: How to Add an Opt-In Subscription Box)

Now that your email marketing list is set up, the next task will be deciding…

How to Get People on Your List

Give a detailed description. Let your visitors know exactly what they can expect from you once they sign up to your list, then hold true to your word. If they opt-in to receive healthy eating tips, make sure that is what you give them. You can also create a “squeeze page”, which is similar to a product sales page except your visitors only option is to subscribe to your list. Using a squeeze page can be good if you utilize the space enough to share in detail all the benefits and incentives visitors will get when they choose to subscribe to your list. This brings me to my next tip.

Offer an incentive. You may want to consider offering an incentive in exchange for contact information. This works well when you have a specific niche market you want to reach. For instance, if you are a web designer and your visitors are mostly interested in web design, you could offer them a free report or ebook about how to design a website when they subscribe to your list.

Provide compelling content. If you own a blog (which you should), make sure that you are always providing quality and informative content for your readers. When people see you offer value and useful information that will actually make their life easier, they will be more comfortable subscribing to your list because they have a sense of what you bring to the table. This is why it is important to have an opt-in box on your blogs and websites to allow your visitors easy access.

Focus on your Niche. Another great way to get people to opt-in is to serve a particular niche. The more your content, products and service can target a specific audience, the more likely they will be to join your mailing list. Again, they can trust that you will deliver the kind of information they need and want.

Promote your list. There are a variety ways you can promote your mailing list. If you enjoy writing and blogging, find another blogger related to your industry and offer to do a guest post. You can take advantage of the bio box you will be able to add at the end of your post by sharing a description and link to your newsletter. Article writing is another way to reach more people. There are many article directories you can submit your articles to. You can always share links and sign-up information across your social networks and on twitter. The most important thing to remember is that in order for you to build a great list, you have to promote it on a continuous basis!

Being Consistent

Once you start your email list, it is important that you stay consistent. Be sure to always stay focused on providing the content your subscribers want to receive from you and on a regular basis. Email Marketing is an easy way to offer products and services to your list however, promotion should be kept to a minimum. When your goal is to provide your subscribers with useful content that will help them, in time, they will be more comfortable taking you up on your product offer when you share it!

Remember, just like every part of business building, establishing your list for email marketing takes time. Be patient consistent, and creative and watch your email list grow!

Successful small business owners and entrepreneurs have learned that having a solid and profitable business, first starts with a strong structural foundation. Smart entrepreneurs realize that forming strategic partnerships is a contributing factor to their overall long term success.

What exactly is a strategic alliance?

Strategic alliances are practical arrangements between two or more entities which are created to achieve mutual goals through collaboration. It is a way to connect with others and work together to reach a common goal while still maintaining individuality.

You can look at a strategic partnerships as a way of developing a team effort allowing all parties involved to reap the rewards and benefits. This type of alliance is simply a business-to-business collaboration. A strategic alliance can often be established more formally as a joint venture or partnership.

The most common partnerships can be defined as; promotional alliances in which each party promotes the others products or service for a set period of time, marketing alliances can be formed to market complimentary products, and pricing or cost alliances can be created to cut cost, share expenses or eligibility to receive discounts. There are a variety of strategic partnerships that can be designed to meet the needs of both partners.

What are the benefits of creating these alliances?

For most small business owners and entrepreneurs, the biggest benefit of creating an alliance is to quickly and easily be able to expand into a new market. Another great benefit is having the accessibility to additional resources, a network of new people and potential contacts and being able to develop new business opportunities with new products and services.

How can I find strategic alliance partners?

Starting within your current network of contacts and customers is best since you have already established some form of relationship or connection with them. You can also locate other businesses or entrepreneurs who provide products or services complimentary to your own. Depending upon your goals and needs, partnering with your competitors could be a good option as well.

Before you set up your alliance, you will have to establish your terms and create a plan that clarifies exactly what you need and want to achieve. Both parties must mutually agree and fully be aware of what is expected on both ends.

When choosing a strategic partner, you will want to make sure you first conduct your research. You will have to check their credibility, business integrity, make certain they are trust worthy and determine whether they are a good fit for your business to eliminate any possible conflicts.

Creating a Community Around Your BusinessHave you ever wondered how you could build a community around your business? It would be nice to have a bunch of people who willingly come together and share their thoughts and opinions about your business, wouldn’t it? Before you think it’s impossible to create such an environment around your company, let me explain.

A community can be defined as a group of people sharing the same interests and ideas. That’s what makes social media so amazing because it allows people from all over the world to come together online and communicate with each other about the common interests they all share.

It’s really easy to get people to come together and communicate about your business. Just like in real life, you engage the people who share your same interest then you start a conversation. Of course online, your conversation would be in the form of content. It’s up to you to determine in what way people would like to receive content from you, for example: video, articles, tweets…you get the idea. Content is what brings people together therefore, it creates a community.

If you have established your business online even if it’s to the smallest degree, you’ve probably already connected and have some sort of relationship with people who believe in what you are doing. Well guess what? These are the people who are a part of your community!

Now all you have to do is continue to focus your content at speaking directly to your community. So many times I have seen bloggers and internet marketers try to reach such a broad group of people and it comes through in their writing as generic and bland. You can’t please the masses, you have to connect with people who share your interests.

When your able to share your experience with your community and give content to them that creates interaction and sparks communication, they will be willing to engage because they know you understand their needs and offer solutions.

Creating a community doesn’t have to be difficult. You don’t even have to start your own social network (unless of course you want to!) You could however, start a group in an existing social community like TheCEOMamma Network.

Your Blog is also a great way to share your content and encourage interaction with your readers. You can get really creative by asking questions to your readers and requesting feedback or opinions. Having a Facebook Fan Page for your business makes a great community environment as well. It will require a bit more moderation and active participation on your part, but it’s still a good way to build relationships.

Believe it or not, Twitter can be great for creating your business community too! You can quickly share information and links with other people who share your interests. It gives you a way to invite them into your space and allows them to learn more about you and what you do.

As you can see, creating a community around your business is not only easy but can be fun as you connect with like minded people and grow your business at the same time!

Are you building a community around your business? How are you doing it? Share your tips in the comments below.

Let’s be honest, we ALL want a ton of loyal followers and raving fans chasing after us online helping us expand our business, right? Wouldn’t it be great to wake up each morning to find that over night, a flood of new people joined your fan page or your twitter account had a sudden rush of new followers? I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that this is the exact feeling most entrepreneurs would love to experience (myself included).

Even if you spend a large amount of time on social networking each day you still may not be getting the kind of followers and fans you want. The reason could be a few things but the main one could be your just not creating the right connections.

Let’s take Twitter for instance, if you are on there and your not actively seeking people to follow, more likely than not, you won’t have anyone following you back. If you do have followers and neither of you share anything in common, how exactly will you benefit from each other? Before you can establish the right connections on Twitter, you have to follow the right people.

How to Create Connections to Expand Your Social Media - TheCEOMamma Blog

Who are the right people and right connections? I’m glad you asked!

The good news is you can start creating the right connections today by simply tweaking your strategy. Before you jump back on Twitter or Facebook, you’ll want to think about the type of people you want following or connecting with you. Think about who you want buying your product, who you would love to work with, the type of people you’d like to partner with even consider the people you can learn from.

Those who want your product or service. Knowing what you offer, who are the individuals who will receive the most benefit? Are they women, are they mothers, are they mothers of children of a specific age… really narrow it down. These are the group of people you will need to start connecting with.

Those in your industry. Find and establish a rapport with people in your specific industry. Get over the competitive mentality, there is plenty of business to go around. It’s okay to “share” friends and followers of these people. Your not stealing business from each other, your simply broadening your network. Besides, people will do business with whomever they are drawn to and that’s a fact.

Those who are experts in other fields. Be open to partnering with experts in other industries who compliment your business and vice versa. Imagine how explosive it would be if you designed websites and you partnered with someone who has a web hosting company. The two of you could refer clients to each while both of you benefit from the almost effortless increase of income.  Step outside of your comfort zone and reach out!

Those who are highly influential. I’m sure there is someone you know who inspires you on a regular basis. That person (or people) who has built your ideal business and has been your motivating force during your business journey. These are the individuals who already are, where you want to be! Connect with them, follow them, learn from them. You never know what could come of these types of connections.

Those who are your raving fans. These are the people who encourage you to keep going. They are not necessarily customers (maybe they can’t afford your product), they are everywhere you are (they could find you in the dark), they are the ones who comment on your posts often and share your links without being prompted (they totally support what your about). They are the ones who seem almost able to see your vision as you see it. You must connect with these people because they are the ones who truly believe in YOU! They sometimes get lost in the crowd or may even be considered the underdog BUT they are your virtual cheerleaders and even if you don’t realize it…you inspire them! They genuinely appreciate ALL that you do.

Making the right connections requires activity on your part, especially if your just starting out (or restarting). Put forth the actions now and you will reap the rewards soon enough. It doesn’t have to be a difficult chore if you start building relationships with the right people now.

So, take these tips and get to work!

Next up, I’ll share with you how to create your own network community designed around your business!

Evelyn Bourne article on TheCEOMamma BlogWith all of the other things that demand your attention, sometimes the task of writing falls by the wayside. But if you are relying on article marketing to bring targeted traffic to your web site, then your goal should be to write at least one article each day. That might sound like a daunting task, because if you do not have a high volume of articles published in article directories, then you have not seen the kind of traffic and exposure they can bring you. The return on your article writing and submitting efforts can be delayed by thirty days or more, but you must continue to crank out those articles and take it on faith that they will be working for you for months and years to come.

Develop an Article Writing System
Do not try to start from a blank screen or piece of paper. Develop your own article writing system that will help you to produce more writing in less time and with less anguish and effort. Create a list of the article topics and keywords that you need to write about and do your research in batches. Take notes on each topic and file it under a working title for each article.

Schedule Your Article Writing Time
Set aside time to write when you are feeling rested and alert. Why not start each day by writing an article or two? If you actually schedule in a time slot for writing each day, you can have your online calendar send you reminders throughout the day. After awhile you will establish your own writing routine.

Create Article Templates
If you have been writing for any length of time you have developed a unique writing style or approach to creating your articles. Create a few templates for the style of article that you write. For example: The Q and A article, or the ‘What Not to Do,” article, etc. You can also purchase ready made article templates if you are not feeling especially creative. Sometimes just looking through your templates file can spark an idea for an article.

Post Your Working Articles List in a Visible Location
If you have a bulletin board in your office, or a white board, write your running list of articles in progress on that board. Having your article titles posted in a place that you can see them every day will keep them top of mind so that you are less likely to procrastinate about getting them finished.

Build in a Reward for Your Hard Work
Sometimes the prospect of a reward is enough to motivate us to push on and accomplish a goal. Set up some way t reward yourself when you have met the writing goals that you have set for yourself. Encourage one of your colleagues to join you in trying to write and submit more articles and you can encourage each others progress and share ideas.

The true rewards of article marketing come with volume. Make it a daily practice to continue to add to your volume of articles and you will be encouraged as you see the traffic to your web site steadily increase over time.

Just the mere thought of Article Marketing can be overwhelming for some people, especially those who aren’t necessarily fond of writing. When I first decided to explore this method of marketing my business, I quickly found that it wasn’t as difficult a task as I orignially imagined. If your struggling to generate traffic to your blog or website you should consider, article marketing.

Like so many small business owners, most of my marketing efforts consists of various techniques of driving regular traffic to my blog. Many entrepreneurs choose article marketing as one of their ideal online activities because it’s free,  easy to get started and a great way to establish your presence online.

Submitting your articles to various article directories will not only help your sites traffic but can help you increase visibility because your submitted articles are available for republishing. When someone uses your article on their website or blog, it expands your network and exposes your bio and link included in your article, to more viewers.

If you are building a business online and your wondering how to get free traffic, generate business exposure and increase your online income, take a deeper look at article marketing. What better way to share original content within your niche market, on such a large scale to those eager to learn of what you offer?

If your interested in learning more about how article marketing can help you grow your business, Nicole Dean offers a free 5 day Easy Article Marketing eCourse designed to show you how it all works. As a small business owner, you’ve undoubtedly come across the concept of branding. Most likely, you’ve heard that if you want to succeed and skyrocket your biz to the top, then you need to create a powerful and memorable brand that your prospects believe in.

The main problem is that most small business owners are confused, overwhelmed and frustrated about the entire branding process. Is it the creation of a logo? Is it the website? Or, maybe it’s the particular combination of colors used in the sales literature.

While all this is a piece of the branding process, it’s really not embracing the entire concept.

So, what is branding? According to Bill Chiaravalle, Principal and Creative Director of Brand Navigation, “brands are promises that consumers believe in.” He simplifies the entire branding process down to the fact that if a company has done a good job branding themselves, the consumer will trust them and ultimately develop a strong emotional attachment to them.

I want to introduce you to a company that embraces the branding concept brilliantly and, as a result, has built a multi-million dollar business in the process.  Introducing: The Geek Squad.

The Geek Squad is not, in and of itself, a small business by any means, but they certainly have a lot to teach the small business owner about branding. Even if your office consists of a small kitchen table and you’re the President, Vice-President and your own personal assistant, you can borrow the concepts of The Geek Squad and incorporate them into your own small business.

When you visit the Geek Squad website, it makes an instant impression on you. Furthermore, you immediately understand what they are promising you. They’re the funny, dedicated “geeks” who understand absolutely everything about computers. They’re the same “geeks” from your high school math class who knew every answer on the tests and helped you out with your homework. They’re safe, reliable and as smart as it gets.

The Geek Squad understands that branding covers every single aspect of business.  It’s never just about your website or business logo (although that’s part of it). Branding is about creating a feeling and a response in the minds of your clients and customers.

Here Are 10 Ways That The Geek Squad Can Help You Explode Your Own Brand:

1. Company Name. The name of your company is an integral part of the branding process. You need to ensure that your customers understand who you are and what your represent through your company name.  Obviously, the name “Geek Squad” speaks volumes.

2. Website. Your website needs to offer your prospects a big picture look at your entire brand. Everything on your site should promote the promise that you are making to your clients and customers.

3. Mission Statement. Your company mission statement should be a natural extension of your brand. The Geek Squad states, “We’re an army more than 18,000 strong, on a singular mission to rid the world of rogue technology. We’re still oddly dressed, but we’re now oddly dressed and saving the day across the globe.” Brilliant.

4. Phone Tactics. Yes, branding even entails how you answer the phone. Think about ways that you can integrate your brand and your business phone. The Geek Squad doesn’t just “answer the phone.” Instead you are prompted to enter your “top secret pass code” or speak to a Geek Squad Special Agent. The on-hold music consists of a compilation of spy movie theme songs.

5. Dress Code. If you can incorporate your brand into the way that you or your employees dress, this will even add more believability to your brand. Of course, Geek Squad employees dress in white shirts, dress pants, “geeky” ties and yes, some even flaunt the pocket protector.

6. Tweets. If you’re going to use Twitter as a marketing tool, make sure that you use it as a platform to develop powerful brand awareness regarding your small business.  @GeekSquad tweets daily tips about fixing your computer, removing spyware and other “geeky” topics that their dedicated customer-base loves.

7. Blog. One of the most important marketing tools for today’s small business is maintaining a blog. There is no better way to communicate directly with your prospects, customers and clients.  At the Geek Blog, the writers go into depth about geeky technology, geeky facts and geeky jokes.

8. Videos. Have you heard about GeekSquad TV? That’s the ingenious Geek Squad videos that showcase the intelligence and utter geekiness of these likable employees. Again, their videos continue to drive home the fact that these guys know what they’re doing.

9. The Car You Drive. If you are creative enough, branding can even be a part of the car you drive. Take a look at the “Geek Mobile,” a compact, little VW emblazoned with the Geek Squad logo. If that doesn’t create brand awareness, I don’t know what would!

10. Consistency. One of the most crucial aspects of branding a small business is that you must be absolutely consistent. Every single interaction that your customers have must send the same message. You are ultimately creating experiences for your prospects, clients and customers that create trust and build emotional attachments to your company.

So, as you begin the task of building a brand that creates fierce and intense loyalty in your market area, don’t forget about the Geek Squad. They are branding masters.

“I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.” — Bill Cosby

To attract clients consistently and with little effort, your marketing message must be clear and it must stand out. There’s no way around it. If what you say about your business and what prospects read about it isn’t sounding irresistible to them, they’ll move on to the next person. Guaranteed.

So, your task is to stand out from the pack and to make prospects really stand up and listen to what you have to offer. In my opinion, standing out from the pack is easiest if you have an expertise or a niche. (But you knew that already.) So, what’s stopping you? Well, after having worked with thousands of people on this issue, I’ve come up with 2 reasons why most people don’t niche:

  1. They believe they’ll turn away opportunities if they go too narrow.
  2. They wouldn’t even know where to start (and most are going about it the WRONG way).

Let’s start with the first point.

Believing that you’ll turn away clients and opportunities if you niche is actually completely and utterly invalid. It comes from a “lack” mindset, one based in fear. Ironically, the exact opposite is true. When you niche properly, you get more clients and Client Attraction becomes SO much easier:

  • Your marketing message becomes crystal clear.
  • Your marketing plan is SO much easier (and less costly).
  • People perceive you as an expert (clients seek out experts).
  • You get a lot more referrals than generalists do.
  • Strategic alliances seek YOU out.
  • You can charge more because you know more.
  • You get sought out by the media (the media loves experts)

Once you get clear it’s of absolute benefit to you to niche, your job is to do just that. And that’s usually the daunting part. There are many ways of creating a niche. Solopreneurs often don’t know where to start and if you ask me, people go about it in the wrong way (that’s probably why it’s so frustrating and why they’ve even stopped trying to niche). Here’s where they’re making a mistake.

Most people look on the OUTSIDE for a niche, when they should be looking on the INSIDE. Instead of TRYING to find a demographic that is more affluent, or more likely to work with you and forcing yourself into a particular niche, just because the numbers look good on paper, look for a situation or type of person you have an AFFINITY with, who can recognize that working with you is essential.

Hint: your niche is usually someone like you, who is in the “before” stage of YOUR own “before-and-after” story. This is really important. When someone is looking to hire someone in your industry, they’re looking for a SOLUTION to their biggest problem. Not only that, they’re also looking for reassurance it will work and their mo-ney will be well spent.

Essentially, many will come to you and pay you (well) to have you show them how to get to the “after” part of the story. That’s when using your Compelling Story in your marketing begins to REALLY make a difference in your Client Attraction. When you can tell your story, show your struggles, what you did to get over those, and what your situation is like now (and that you can help them do the exact same thing and, oh, you’ve actually got a Proprietary System that will walk them through it easily) they’re SOLD.

Right there, on the spot, they will choose to be your client. And you haven’t even opened your mouth yet! Your marketing message and materials did all the work for you. How cool is that?

Your Assignment:

Instead of looking on the OUTSIDE for your niche, look for it on the INSIDE. Your best clients may just be the person experiencing the “before” part of your “before and after” story. A person in that position will look to you for the solutions they need and will probably do anything and pay relatively anything to work with you to get out of their situation. They’ll trust you faster than they would the average Joe and will look to you as their problem solver before anyone else.

Use your compelling story to pinpoint your niche. It can be either a type of SITUATION you’re solving or a type of PERSON you work with. Or it can be both, it doesn’t matter. They key is to have such clarity in your marketing (a niche) that clients and customers self-select and pre-qualify themselves to be your client, with little or no effort on your part. Then, they reach out to you without you having to do anything. Can you now see how much easier it is to have a niche? Good. This may just be the start of a whole new business and in-come level for you.

You may be having trouble figuring out your own Compelling Story, Proprietary System, and niche. If so, I recommend getting a copy of the Client Attraction Home Study System™. It gives you the most important things to do to figure this all out easily, and then set up simple, solid marketing systems, so that you consistently fill your pipeline and continually get new clients. It’s all step-by-step, not a big mishmash of things. So, you do step one of the system, and when you’re done with that, you move on to step two, and so on. All the tools, scripts, templates, and examples are handed to you on a silver platter. Easy.
